Privacy policy
October 2, 2026
This policy explains how DIY Totals collects, uses, and looks after your personal information when you visit diytotals.com.
DIY Totals is the data controller for personal information described in this policy. If you have questions about this policy or how your data is handled, use our contact form.
What we collect
DIY Totals has no accounts, no sign-up, no newsletter and nothing to log in to. It stores no visitor database and, on its own, no data about you. The points below describe the data that can pass through the service.
- Calculator inputs. The figures you enter stay only on the current website page / address. Sharing that address lets someone else open the same result. Those inputs are never sent to us, and the address holds measurements, not personal data.
- Contact form. We ask for your name (optional), email address, and message. The form also sends us the page address you submitted it from, which gives our reply some context. One submission means one email to us and one automatic confirmation to your email address. We use your email address and message only to reply. No database stores the conversation. It stays in our mailbox until it ends. Resend, the email delivery service, keeps a log copy for 30 days, then deletes it. When you submit the form, we hold your IP address in temporary memory for about 10 minutes to limit repeated sends. It is never saved to disk or a database and is not used for anything else.
- Server logs. Our hosting provider keeps short, standard logs with your IP address, browser type, the page you requested, and the time. These are kept up to 1 day for security and to keep the site available. This is a hosting practice rather than a collection by us.
- Embedded calculators. Other websites can display a DIY Totals calculator inside a frame on their own pages. That frame is served from diytotals.com, so the server logs described above apply there. Inside the frame, we do not use Google Analytics 4, set cookies, or store anything in your browser. The page outside the frame belongs to the hosting website, so its privacy policy applies there.
Analytics and cookies
DIY Totals itself uses no local storage and sets no cookies of its own. Google Analytics 4 handles the visit measurements described below, and it may set its own cookies depending on your region.
| Region | How Google Analytics 4 works | Cookie set |
|---|---|---|
| UK, EEA, Switzerland | No analytics cookie is set and Google Analytics 4 receives only anonymous, cookieless pings. Nothing is stored in the browser. | None |
| Everywhere else, including the US | Google Analytics 4 sets a cookie to tell returning browsers from new ones. Advertising features and Google Signals are switched off. | Cookies beginning _ga |
- Google Analytics 4 counts page views and records which calculators get used.
- Data is retained in Google Analytics for 2 months, the shortest period Google offers.
- Google Signals and advertising features are switched off, so no personalised advertising uses this data.
- To opt out, install Google's browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, or run a content blocker that stops googletagmanager.com from loading.
Who processes data for us
Three companies act as processors for the site.
- Google processes analytics information for Google Analytics 4.
- Resend delivers contact-form messages and automatic confirmations, and keeps a sending log for 30 days.
- Vercel serves the pages and keeps the server logs described above.

- For visitors in the UK, the EEA or Switzerland, we do not set any analytics cookie; if that ever changes, we will request consent before setting one and update this policy.
