Terms of use

October 3, 2026

These terms govern your use of diytotals.com and its calculators.

Acceptance

Using any page on diytotals.com means you accept these terms. If you do not accept them, stop using the site.

What the site is for

DIY Totals at diytotals.com provides free material calculators for home projects. Roof pitch and roofing are covered, along with stairs, decks, concrete, patios, pavers and conversions between area and volume units, plus ready-made pages for the concrete slab sizes people search for most. Results are planning estimates: bags, boards or bundles, a waste allowance and an approximate cost.

A result is not a quotation and not professional advice. Take it to your supplier and buy against their quote. Structural work is governed by local building codes, including stairs, deck footings, deck stairs and railings, which the codes call guards, and load-bearing slabs. Where the code requires it, you may need a qualified professional or a permit, and codes differ from place to place.

How the figures are made

  • The calculators work from measurements you enter.
  • Bag yields follow the manufacturer's published specification, for example QUIKRETE.
  • Every calculator adds a waste allowance, and you can edit the amount on the page. The starting figure depends on the material and the layout: concrete and deck boards start at 10 percent, pavers in running or stack bond take 5 percent, and herringbone or diagonal layouts need more.
  • Installation guides published by Decks.com and Unilock supply the deck and paver figures.
  • Stair geometry follows the International Residential Code published by the International Code Council.
  • Retail prices on the site are reference prices from one retailer's listing, and the month each one was checked appears beside it. Your store's price will differ.

No warranty and liability

DIY Totals is provided as is and as available. We make no warranty about accuracy, completeness, timeliness or fitness for a particular purpose. To the fullest extent the law allows, we exclude liability for loss arising from use of the site. Nothing in these terms excludes liability that the law does not allow us to exclude.

Your use of the site

You may use the site in these ways.

  • Use the calculators to plan your own home and property projects.
  • Quote from, link to or screenshot content, with a link back to DIY Totals.
  • Any website can take the embed code, which you copy from the Calculator widget page, as long as the code stays unchanged and the link back is kept.
  • Automated access is allowed when the client names itself and keeps its request rate reasonable.

These uses are not allowed.

  • Automated access at an unreasonable rate or in a way that degrades the service.
  • Modifying the embed snippet or removing its link back.
  • Republishing whole pages as your own content.

Embedding a calculator

Every calculator's embed code is built on the Calculator widget page. The code is free to paste onto any website. Leave the pasted code unchanged so the link back to diytotals.com stays in place.

Intellectual property

The text, page design, code, drawings, tables and calculators on the site are the intellectual property of DIY Totals. Copyright protects them. You may still quote from the site, link to it or take screenshots, with a link back to DIY Totals. Whole-page copying presented as your own work is not.

Independence from retailers and code bodies

Unilock, Decks.com, the International Code Council, Home Depot and QUIKRETE are not affiliated with DIY Totals, are not connected to it, and do not endorse it. The same holds for any other manufacturer, retailer or publisher named on this site. Each mention credits the source of a figure.

Links to other sites

Some pages link to other sites, including retailer listings, manufacturer specifications and building codes. Those sites run under their own terms and privacy policies. A link from DIY Totals is not approval of the target site.

Changes

We may change these terms. Each version appears on this page with the date it applies from. Continued use after a change means you accept the updated terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction. Any consumer protection in your home jurisdiction that cannot lawfully be excluded continues to apply.
